A PhD Student Growing Food in Iran

Omid Monemi Amiri from Babol, Iran

“I am a PhD student in agriculture ecology. I am 33 years old and I have been farming for about 16 years. Ever since I was a child, I have been very interested in nature and animals. Because of financial problems, I made my own agricultural implements.

My Farming Practices

To improve the soil structure, I add plant residues and compost to the soil. When I produce an agricultural product that is healthy, it makes me feel good. Farmers in my city, province and country pay more attention to production, but they don't care about the quality of agricultural products and food security. With my farming practices, I have demonstrated to other farmers that it is possible to produce a healthy product with low cost. But most farmers in my city still do not trust my words.

The Planet is for Everyone

I ask people to come to my farm and harvest the crops they need. The planet is for all beings, not to be destroyed by human greed.”
